I see #4 in the future

From kneeslider:

Erik Buell Racing 1190RR with Turn Signals and Radiator Fans

Quote:
The developments continue at Erik Buell Racing, and a few are more interesting than others, like an 1190RR race bike with turn signals and radiator fans, just the sort of thing you might see on a race street bike. Let's see, how long has it been since Erik Buell was shown the door? How long before he can set up shop in the street bike business? Rumors of a street bike have been floating around for a while and these photos and video certainly add to the anticipation. I think it's just a matter of time, ... but how much time? Inquiring minds want to know.

There are some pictures and a video on the site.
Looks like a nice bike.

Rumors are for a street bike in the $15k range and a "race-ready" model for $20k, including Showa BPF suspension and cast Mg wheels.

I'm not necessarily chomping at the bit for the 1190, oddly enough.  The motor shows impressive performance, for sure, but at the cost of reliability.  EBR has had two mechanical DNFs to my knowledge.

The 1125r mill is a tank, given it produces roughly half the HP per cc of the 600cc I4s:  power, lower displacement, reliability; pick two.

Okay, seriously now...if you had $45K laying around and wanted to buy a "race-ready bike", would you drop it on a Buell?

You know, seeing as you're such a Rotax fan (me too), you should head over here and find yourself a nice RSVR Factory model to supplement the Buell trifecta.

http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28

The Factory comes with Ohlins suspension, Oz forged wheels, a sprinkling of carbon fiber, and decent exhaust.

You're going to have to find a suitable replacement for those Buellas someday anyway.  Might as well step up to the Ape.  Given your affection to twins, it's either that or Ducati anyway.

I've always admired the Aprilia.  I should have bought yours...

I should have kept mine!  There are a few that I feel that way about.

The Ape, the Ducati 900SS FE, probably the BMW R1200S...oh well, such is life  Cool

The drawback of the Ape is the weight.

For now, I think I'm going to hold on to my money until the "next generation" of twins comes out.  A bike in the 370lb fully wet curb weight range.

I'd actually consider the RSV4.  It's compact and short, and has the kind of chassis and feel I like in a bike.

The 1190 with steel valves instead of Ti, 160ish horsepower instead of 180, and good reliability at $15k would get me interested, though.  At $40k, that's just way more than I'm going to split with for something I'm likely to wad up.

Ty Howard is selling his sprint bike at the end of the season.  I've looked at it a couple of times....

I'd be leery of buying a RC8.  Cool bikes, but could be almost as rare as a Buell in a few years.  They have not really caught on.  It wouldn't surprise me to see KTM fall back and focus on their core strengths: dirtbikes, motards, adventure bikes, and move away from a sportbike offering.  Time will tell.
